Safety
The University is always concerned about the safety and welfare of our students and strongly encourages all students to take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their friends.
While the University provides services to help keep you safe, you can do the most to protect yourself. Many of you enjoy a variety of social and entertainment options and nightlife activities on campus and throughout the Twin Cities area. We want you to consider the following safety precautions as you take advantage of all that our campus and our vibrant metropolitan community have to offer:
- Walk with a friend, especially during evening hours, even if only for a brief distance.
- Inform friends or roommates about your plans and when you expect to return home.
- If you have a cell phone, carry it with you and don't hesitate to call 911 for assistance if you find yourself in a dangerous or compromising position.
- If you experience a situation that has the potential to evolve into a violent encounter, walk away and call 911. Don't attempt to resolve conflicts yourself, especially if people have been drinking alcohol.
- Be observant and pay attention to your environment. Don't put yourself in a vulnerable situation when you can avoid doing so.
- Don't accept rides from people you don't know, and don't go to the apartments or homes of people you don't know.
